Summary/Abstract: This study reads Gülay Karakuş’s solo exhibition “A Road Story: Threshold” through images. In her works, the individual pursuits of human beings and the desire to discover themselves appear as a prominent phenomenon. Focusing on the objects, the artist mirrors the inner world of humans through these objects. The works of the artist have the meaning of the common human story. Her struggle to interpret the story through art shows a strong aesthetic concern. While modern times transform life into fragmented and disconnected moments and impose certain patterns, Karakuş offers humans a different alternative. The artist almost freezes the time continuity loop by reminding people of the thresholds that they must/have to cross. She leaves people alone with their past, present, and future designs within the concept of time, which is frozen and its details are destroyed. In this article, “A Road Story: Threshold”; it was tried to be analyzed the images of child-play, cradle, suitcase and coffin. In the selection of objects in the exhibition, reference to thresholds in human life draws attention. Works that bear traces of personal and collective memory are important in that they offer various readings through different processes of the moment. While the article was carried out within the possibilities of the qualitative research method, the artist’s opinions were used about the formation phase of the exhibition, the production process of the works and the way of display.
