Summary/Abstract: The analysis of the prefaces of the liturgical books from the Bistrița Monastery shows an interest of the rulers of the era for book in general and for the church book in particular. Thus, it is noticed in the case of the prints from the printing house in Bucharest the preface of the books by prince Şerban Cantacuzino. It is the case of the Gospel and an Apostle appeared in Bucharest, in 1682, 1683 (books with inventory numbers 228, 229, 826 and 941). If we take into consideration the ruler's intellectual training as well as his role as a patron, it is absolutely normal to honour him by allowing him to write the preface of some books on church services of such great importance. Especially if we have in view also the fact that the ruler himself is the sponsor of these prints, as well as the fact that Şerban Cantacuzino is a supporter of the spread of books from Wallachian printing houses both on the territory of his country as well as on the territory of the other Romanian provinces, especially in Transylvania.
