Summary/Abstract: The article explores the ways in which, during the interwar period, the representations of Romanian identity were based on a mechanism that can be defined as “cultural demand and supply”. The particular Romanian type of cultural goods meant to brand a country developed along the rural, the exotic and the Balkan, i.e. a tamed type of exoticism that combined art, fashion, ethnography, food, and was advertised by the Royal House of Romania to the public of the United States after 1919.
