Summary/Abstract: In the present article we will conduct a case study on how Sulina was affected during The Second World War and during the current War in Ukraine, emphasizing, on the one hand, the traumas of the past, and on the other, the vulnerabilities of the present. Regarding the traumas, which had an impact on the collective memory, the destruction of the architectural heritage during the Second World War will be considered. Regarding the vulnerabilities, several examples from the last year will be taken into account, which cause security problems to the place and its inhabitants. We were interested in developing an interdisciplinary methodological approach, by using sources from memoirs dedicated to Sulina and oral history. Studying the vulnerabilities, destruction and traumas is very important, because in this way, a local community can be better understood and ways to improve the quality of life in Sulina, can, in time, be identified. Natural vulnerabilities were not taken into account, because they will be analyzed in another study, although Sulina’s geographical location determined a series of traumas and vulnerabilities, in the context of armed conflicts on the Romanian shore of the Black Sea.
