Summary/Abstract: Towards the end of the twelfth century, the lands of the Eastern Baltic began processes that would lead to revolutionary changes of a religious, social and material nature. The carriers of these changes were Western merchants, clergy and knights, whose interests intersected in the context of the Northern (Baltic) campaigns. These processes lead to the Christianization of the last “pagan island” in Europe and the emergence of a new state entity – Medieval Livonia. These changes are not only revolutionary, but also extremely durable over time, and their consequences are clearly visible even today.
