Management of warehouse space – a case study

Summary/Abstract: Increasing competition on the market requires a company to improve the efficiency of its logistics process. The warehouse is one of the most important elements of the logistics process. Good warehouse operation efficiency will improve quality and delivery time. And these parameters also contribute to customer satisfaction and lower operating costs. This article is devoted to the analysis of the impact warehouse structure and its equipment have on cost. The main goal of this article is to identify the benefits of changing the type of rack and the arrangement of resources. Using a case study, the article compares parameters related to the use of two types of racks and presents results of simulation tests of routes covered by a forklift truck between individual zones. A key element of the work is to indicate the benefits of using a dynamic rack. The research has shown that the decision on the appropriate design of the warehouse and its equipment is very important, as it affects, among other things, warehouse efficiency, transport costs, service time and warehouse capacity. The benefits that resulted from the analysis were divided into three groups: financial, environmental and organizational. The results of this study provide valuable information for practitioners as they show a holistic approach to the reorganization of the spatial layout of the warehouse.
