Summary/Abstract: Rural areas in the hinterland of large urban centres are subject to strong migration processes. There are various spatial and functional consequences, including new impact zones where the urban and rural come into contact. The study aims to identify cities that have created such zones in the rural areas of the polycentric Metropolitan region of Górnośląsko-Zagłębiowska (GZM). The study is based on both the scale and direction of migration and covers the years 2002-2017. Rural communes bordering larger urban areas are subject to the most substantial migratory pressure. The impact zones of urban areas are diverse and overlap each other while rural areas are influenced in a number of ways.
