Summary/Abstract: ELSA (European Law Students' Association)1 is the largest organization of law students in Europe, established in 1981. Today, ELSA has branches in more than 200 law faculties in 43 European countries and over 30,000 members - students you and young lawyers. The purpose of the organization is to contribute to legal education, to stimulate international contacts and understanding, and to increase the social responsibility of young people who want to devote themselves to law. ELSA supports trainee and novice lawyers to gain the experience and skills they will need in their work. ELSA has a special status in several international institutions. In 1997, the organization received consultative status in the Economic and Social Council and in the Commission on International Trade Law of the United Nations. Since 1994, ELSA has had consultative status category C in UNESCO, and since 2000 - also in the Council of Europe. In 2005, the World Intellectual Property Organization granted it observer status.
