Summary/Abstract: Travel narratives, particularly those written by foreign travellers, serve as invaluable sources for historical research, offering firsthand accounts of real experiences. However, there are significant exceptions instances where travellers craft their guides by borrowing from fragments and entire works written by other travellers, without acknowledging the original sources or authors. These are the fictional travellers, whose guides are not based on personal experiences but rather on the works of others. This article compares two travel guides to Spain from the early 17th century, ultimately concluding that one original author existed, while the author of the second guide merely reproduced the words of the first, constituting a form of plagiarism. This article also examines the complexities of identities and authorities within this contexts, aiming to shed light on these ambiguities.
