Summary/Abstract: In 1947, Hungary and Bulgaria signed a cultural agreement, laying the foundation for establishing a Bulgarian language and literature major at the Department of Slavic Philology’s at the Eötvös Loránd University (ELTE) in Budapest during the academic year 1951/1952. This study traces the history of the Bulgarian major from its inception up to the present day. It presents the various higher education reforms. It reviews the changes in mobility options for students. It introduces the teachers of the Bulgarian major, its Bulgarian lecturers, its academic, organization of conferences, and jubilee events.
