Summary/Abstract: The present study deals with gifted pupils, who constitute a specific group in our schools. They differ from other pupils with IQs below the gifted level not only in cognitive abilities but also in specific behavioural characteristics. It is therefore necessary for educators to be aware of their gifts, as well as ways of working effectively with them and meeting their distinctive needs. The aim of this study is to highlight the need to identify these pupils and the importance of early recognition of their specific needs. At the same time, the study aims to underline the importance of raising awareness of the needs and possibilities of support for these pupils and to highlight the need for specialised educational programmes as well as the need for adequate diagnosis and support.
