Summary/Abstract: Katalin Szilágyi’s review examines Artur Szőcs’ direction of Bertolt Brecht’s The Beggar’s Opera, set in contemporary Romania. The performance pushes the current political and social injustices in the face of the audience: a country that is existentially divided, the misery of honest graduates, the wealth of deceitful, corrupt politicians or criminals living large, while using special, alienating effects.
