Summary/Abstract: One of the last acts in the mission of the League of Nations was the imposing of sanctions to Fascist Italy (1935) after the latter attacked Ethiopia. However, the way these sanctions were carried out or more accurately giving up such sanctions even before they started to be implemented, was a clear warning for all the political actors of the time. It was about to begin the era of surviving policies and backing up in front of aggressive threats coming from the European extreme right wing. Albania resulted to be among the countries which were to be tested the most with regards such sanctions. The inclination and the long term interests meant that Tirana should remain loyal to the Convention of the League of Nations, according to which defensive measures were to be taken in case one of its members was to become victim of a classic aggression (Article 16). But on the other hand, the political crisis of the summer 1935 was not over yet, while the economic crash was practically leading her towards a state collapse. Lacking support of any kind, the Albanian leader decided to turn to surviving policies, declaring his refusal to implement such sanctions. The Yugoslav government headed by Stojadinovic, took advantage of this fact to promote once again the traditional policy of Belgrade towards Albania. The essence of such policy was to target and label Albania as an unstable and dangerous country for the peace of the Balkans and beyond.
