Summary/Abstract: The term MIGRATION is not a new concept. It is an old demographic phenomenon, with historical roots, multiple causes and unpredictable consequences, which has deeply influenced and influences current Romanian society, a phenomenon which has numerous geopolitical connotations. Migration is a phenomenon that has acquired new meanings thanks to modern technology, namely technological innovations in communications and transport. Migration brings challenges and opportunities for Europe. Migration has multiple causes, from security, demographics and human rights to poverty and climate change.
