Summary/Abstract: Purpose – The aim of the article is to investigate to what extent radical economics isthe basis of the theory and policy of sustainable development, and what are the limitationsof this approach. Research method – Critical analysis of the literature on the subject. Deductive reasoning.Results – Despite many similarities in the substantive, methodological and narra-tive approaches, and despite many accurate postulates, radical economics cannot be anindependent basis for building the theory and practice of sustainable development. Itoffers an overly one-sided picture of the functioning of the modern economy and theachievements of the economy.Originality   / value   / implications   / recommendations – The article presents the implica-tions for the development of the theory and practice of sustainable development resultingfrom the achievements of radical economics.
