Summary/Abstract: In recent decades, spatial conflicts have become an important research issueaddressed by representatives of various scientific disciplines. However, the diversityof theories and approaches to analysing conflicts has formed certain methodologicalobstacles between disciplines, limiting knowledge transfer and making it difficult to integrateresearch results. In the scientific literature on spatial conflicts, works by geographersand planners prevail, for whom geographic space marks the key research perspective. On the other hand, anchoring the conflict analysis solely in the legal aspect excessivelyfocuses attention on legal regulations neglecting other relevant factors – economic, socialand geographic ones. The paper aimed to recognise how the legal aspect is consideredin the key geographic-economic concepts utilised in studying spatial conflicts. Keytheoretical and research challenges in analysing spatial conflicts were identified as well asthe linkages between the two approaches to spatial conflicts. Directions for the possibleframing of conflicts in spatial planning legislation were also identified. It was shownthat spatial-economic theories and concepts could be useful in shaping spatial planninglegislation, thus considering changing land use patterns and socio-economic processesand phenomena expressed in the increasingly common spatial conflicts.
