Summary/Abstract: Review of: Graeber, David – Wengrow, David: Úsvit všeho. Nová historie lidstva. Brno: Jan Melvil Publishing 2024, 648 pages, ISBN: 978-80-7555-204-4. The author of the review suggests that the assessed book can be read on three different levels. The first contains a number of unusual, sometimes even provocative theses that are richly documented and supported by extensive research material. The second level includes distinctive features of postmodern thinking. And, thirdly, the book provides a harsh critique of contemporary society. Jan Keller is particularly appreciative of the authors’ invention and nonconformity. The postmodern elements of their approach comprise, for example, the questioning of the concept of evolution and progress (or, more precisely, the myth that modern society has created around this concept) and an aversion to so-called grand narratives, whether they take the form of religious dogmas or scientific theories.
