Summary/Abstract: After the proclamation of the Republic, some steps were taken in Turkish society towards westernization and reaching the level of modern civilizations. In this context, Muhit magazine (November 1928-May 1933) pioneered the Turkish nation in adapting to new ideas and lifestyles and raised exemplary Republican people; It has become a magazine that has important functions in the implementation of reforms, from written language to life. The scope of the study is sports-related articles and visuals in Muhit Magazine, which was published fifty-five issues in five years by Ahmet Cevat Emre. The magazine, which was published with the subtitle of "Illustrated Monthly Family Magazine", focused especially on the concept of family and aimed to raise healthy and intellectually strong citizens with moral values, starting from the smallest unit of society. The aim of the study is to try to explain the cultural identity of Muhit Magazine, which was tried to be created for pragmatic purposes during the Republic period, by considering sports examples. In the study, Muhit Magazine, which was published in the first years of the Republic and is an important publication of the newly established Republic of Turkey, was examined with the content analysis method and evaluated within the framework of the concept of cultural identity. Thus, it was stated that the cultural meaning attributed to sports was developed as a state policy with its importance in the nationalization process. As a result, in addition to the physiological benefits of sports, its cultural functions were also emphasized; It has been evaluated that in the early periods of the Republican Era, the founding structure focused on the construction of national identity within the framework of magazine publishing activities, taking into account the needs of the society and experienced the new human model in this context.
