Summary/Abstract: The article analyzes the main instrumental and formally structural phenomena in the Sonata №2 op. 36 by S. Rachmaninov while at the same time are examined the historical context and features of the era in which the author lived and composed. Against the background of the turning historical events of the beginning of the 20th century, which will predetermined forever the life path of the genius Russian composer, the creative regularities of his musical style and the main characteristics of his piano technique are explored.
