COST ACTION ISO602 “International Law in Domestic Courts” and the participation of Bulgaria in it

Summary/Abstract: INTERNATIONAL LAW // The Action IS0602 on International Law in Domestic Courts (ILDC) was funded by COST (European Cooperation in the field of Scientific and Technical Research). It ran from 10 May 2007 until 9 October 2011. Currently, 22 COST countries and 3 non-COST (USA, South Africa and China) countries participated in the Action. Bulgaria signed the Memorandum of Understanding of the Action on 29 July 2009. ILDC aimed to: make available judgments of domestic courts on matters of international law, where necessary to translate these judgments and to explain the domestic legal frameworks that produced them; feature in-depth commentaries written by a network of legal experts; inform and educate stakeholders about the domestic application of international law; analyze the larger consequences for international law; disseminate information to a wider audience. The COST Action on ILDC provided a unique access to domestic case law concerning international law and enhanced understanding of its relevance for domestic and international law. The Action created an extensive network of reporters and researchers who analyze domestic cases and conduct research on the internationalization of law and its development in domestic jurisdictions. Until 19 October 2011, 868 cases from 79 countries were published on the website of Oxford University Press within the database module ‘International Law in Domestic Courts’, as part of the online legal product ‘Oxford Reports on International Law’. Five Working Groups were established within the Action. Their work resulted in very valuable publications with scientific, practical and political significance.
