Summary/Abstract: Since 16 May 2007, France has had a new President—Nicolas Sarkozy, born in Paris, a 52-year-old son of a Hungarian aristocrat, who arrived at the banks of the river Seine after the Second World War, and a Jewish woman from Thessaloniki, whose family had been miraculously saved from the horror of the Holocaust. He is the 23rd President of France, and at the same time the first one who has no personal experience related to decolonization nor who believes that the priority of France should be its “civilization mission” in the world.
