Summary/Abstract: I chose this topic because I am a great admirer of the Byzantine civilization and the Empire of Nicaea, which is formed after the Fourth Crusade, which will mark the end of the Byzantine Empire as a great power. The Byzantine Empire, whas passing through a period of infighting between the various claimants to the imperial throne and they sought military support from the West, which is expected by the crusaders which will lead to the preparation of the Fourth Crusade (1202 - 1204 ), which will lead to the siege of Constantinople by the crusaders and then the creation of the Eastern Latin Empire (which was a conglomerate of latin states) and the Greek successor states of Byzantium, the Despotate of Epirus, Empire of Nicaea, Empire of Trebizond. Of these states, the Empire of Nicaea will be the one to banish the crusaders from Asia Minor and the Lascariss dynasty will lead the entire process of consolidation of the new state, and after this process, they will initiate campaigns to reconquer Constantinople, which will happen on 25 July 1261, when Constantinople was retaken and the Byzantine Empire is restored.
