Modern dimentions of neoclassical synthesis ideas

Summary/Abstract: This article analyzes the main ideas of neoclassical synthesis, which can be used today for the implementation of economic and financial policies aimed at overcoming the current crisis. The various sections of the article deal with the problems of: 1) state regulation and economic development; 2) the philosophy of automatic stabilizers; 3) the role of state debt; 4) a utopia for cyclical trends; 5) monetary expansion and low interest levels. The author concludes that neoclassical synthesis, as a trend in economic thinking, offers many valuable suggestions which modern governments can use in times of crisis. Without neglecting the role of the private sector, governments can undertake a number of concrete measures aimed at the adoption of a normal rate of unemployment and inflation via a policy of low interest rates, increased investments and, possibly, even an increased external appreciation for the country.
