Summary/Abstract: The aim of this paper is to present the role and importance of African countries within the WTO negotiations. The analysis focuses on the interests of African countries and their impact on international trading system. It is about their real and potential influence on the formulation of global trade regime which the African countries expect to be resulted in their greater inclusion into the mainstream of the global economy. The biggest challenge for African WTO members is to implement the existing principles and rules of international trade, as established in the GATT and WTO multilateral negotiating round, such as agriculture and intellectual property rights. However, to enable those countries to fulfill the expected obligations and to make them better off it is necessary to formulate new favorable rules or at least improve the existing ones. The implementation of this particular task is one of the main objectives of the currently ongoing round of WTO trade negotiations in Doha, called a development round. The successful completion of the multilateral negotiation would determine the future operation of the international trading system with the participation of least developed countries. It is expected that the introduction of new rules encourages greater participation of African countries which would contribute to their poverty reduction and economic growth.
