Summary/Abstract: Ecocriticism has increased recently its development and activity in the literary world arguing that anthropocentric thought system and lifestyles have important influences on the emergence of ecological destruction, natural disasters, and environmental problems. Ecocriticism determines the literary world to take action to research problems resulted from anthropocentric understanding and to find and develop possible solutions. The use of concept has also become important to understand the ecocriticism which focuses its criticism especially on anthropocentrism. Thus, ecocriticism avoids using concepts that can put human into the center. It is clear that this feature is prioritised in choosing the word ecocriticism for this new critical approach. After ecocritical approach has become widespread in our country, the need for being careful about using concepts of ecology and environment, thought to be alike, has emerged. Choosing and using the concepts in question show differences in ecocritical and capitalist discourses. Hence, it should be taken into consideration that using these concepts substitutively does not consist of a simple choice of word and may reflect discursive differences. In the article, the development and usage differences of the concepts of environment and ecology are analyzed by considering their etymologies. It is possible to observe that the concepts of ecology and environment are sometimes unconsciously used in place of each other, and are sometimes attempted to be consciously used in place of each other within capitalist discourse wishing to control its own enemy creating it itself. These discursive differences are examined through illustrations of media studies consisting of poster, television program, movies, and news story.
