Summary/Abstract: The article reveals some of the most popular social myths concerning suicide determination and the possibilities of its prevention by means of rendering qualified support to people having fallen into suicidal crisis. An attempt is made at outlining the causes underlying the emergence of those myths and false stereotype notions, current not only on the level of mass psychology, in the consciousness of some scholars, and in their explanatory theories of suicide, but also spread among part of the medical personnel and the doctors having contacts with suicides. An emphasis is laid on the danger contained in the existence and holding of such false notions in mass consciousness. The achievements of modern suicidology contribute to the science-based refutation and disproof of these notions.
