Summary/Abstract: According to Tadeusz Zaborowski, who before the fall of socialism was a state censor for 15 years, the censoring of morality at the time was based on certain restrictions imposed on the media, e.g. it was forbidden to show details of crimes or to make reports about drug addicts, which showed the taking of drugs. “The basic principle was to inform about such things, but not to show how they were accomplished,” says Tadeusz Zaborowski. It was also forbidden to publicize deviant or perverse forms of sex, e.g.: paedophilia, homosexuality and sadomasochism devices. Literature had greater erotic freedom, but film and photography were strictly censored due to the directness of their images and their mass audience. Censorship in socialist times was controlled by the state and was not, obviously, as liberal as today, although at present various institutions, such as the Catholic Church, continue to influence the media. Did his job, i.e. approving or rejecting the contents of performances, exhibitions and publications, give him any professional satisfaction? Tadeusz Zaborowski felt rewarded when a given project did not require any interference.
