Summary/Abstract: The main aim of the article is centered on the attempt to analyze the so-called “paradigm revolution“ in Demography, produced by the theory of the Second Demographic Transition from sociological point of view. There is no pretence for a full theoretical description concerning the subject of the Second Demographic Transition - thought as ideational core of the theory or as empirical investigations stemming from its analytical potential for doing demographic explorations. The analysis aims to draw attention to the meaning-giving points elaborated by the theory concerning the changes in the reproductive and marriage behavior of the individuals; to point out the preferences for application of different research methods, and additionally, to point out the empirical objects, - these specific ‘enclaves’ of social-demographic reality, which present the focal point of the theory for the two demographic transitions. The synthetic character of the concept, proposed by R. Lesthaeghe and D. van de Kaa is explored through paradigm revolutionary changes inthe field of Demography - as a reversal in the analytical approach to the subject and as a methodological challenge as well. The main social macro-processes are explicated as a possible interpretational framework of the historical occurrence of the Second Demographic Transition. The theoretical fundament of the concept is briefly sketched as exploring and argumentative models of the basic socio-demographic indicators of the SDT. These models exploit the investigations of the social sciences.
