Summary/Abstract: The text presents the ideas of the researchers from the project „Open museum“ financed by the NFSR and aimed at developing concepts about the structure and content of the future permanent exposition of the National ethnographic museum. The exposition is designed with the awareness for the modern functions and position of the museum in society corresponding adequately to the world trends in museology. The team of researchers has produced an analysis of the deficiencies in the ethnographic expositions and the Bulgarian ideas for an ethnographic presentation which is limited thematically and chronologically. The conceptualization, resulting from the project, aims at changing the general approach towards the exposition. The new concepts introduce the idea about the exposition-story, in which all belonging components, similar to a puzzle, construct the meaning and tell stories.
