Summary/Abstract: This article investigates some psychological and sociological factors associated with alcohol drinking in a randomly selected sample of 1051 individuals from both genders, aged 16-65. Significant positive associations were found between alcohol drinking and a complex of physiological (good health), psychosocial (a tendency for affiliation, preference of social values to health-related values) and psychological factors (hedonism, rigid habits). Indirect data were obtained about altered perception for physical activity and increased sensitivity to stress in alcohol drinkers that results in wrong statements and assessments of different aspects of the health-related behavior without altering cognition. These psychological and social features of alcohol drinking should be considered in structuring the design of the preventive interventions.
