Summary/Abstract: This article analyzes the nature and main characteristics of Web 2.0. Several fundamental technologies of Web 2.0 are presented, which according to the author are crucial to business organizations - Web services, Blogs, RSS (Really Simple Syndication), Social Networking, AJAX, Wiki and Mashup. An attempt is made to reveal the capabilities of Web 2.0 technologies and their implantation into a company’s business processes. The main areas of application of Web 2.0 in business are outlined (new opportunities to use the software, changes in the way colleagues work together and share knowledge within the company, new working organization via information and data exchange, building Web applications from users and new tools for more effective information management) as well as the results that can be expected. A practical approach and strategy to realize the capabilities of social media within the business of small and medium enterprises (SMEs) is proposed in six steps - creating a corporate blog, registering the company in Facebook, having a presence in local social networks, using Twitter’s opportunities for instant connection with users and customers, creating of a corporate public Wiki and measuring the degree of returns on investments made.
