Restoration and conservation works on the wall paintings in the Orthodox monastery church in Zavala

Summary/Abstract: The Zavala Monastery with fresco paintings from 1619 is among the most important monuments of Bosnia and Herzegovina. The restoration and conservation works on of the wall paintings, which were of limited scope because of the poor condition of the Monastery building, were confined in terms of methodology and workmanship to architectural and structural repairs. The text deals with the process of removing fresco-paintings, along with the layer of plaster, from the space around the altar and parts of the apse by applying "di - stacco" method.
