Commercial Implications of Tourist Safety

Summary/Abstract: The paper reviews the commercial implications of tourist safety - a topic with numerous practical applications for various destinations, tourist industries, state authorities and scientific circles. The commercial interest is reviewed in terms of the tourist industry – the safety of the tourists as one of the elements of the tourist product quantity, as a competitive advantage, a means of image-making and customer satisfaction criterion. The paper includes a safety scale ranging the tourist-related accidents according to their hazard. Analyzing the specific problems faced by the tourists the report reveals the scope of available sources for analysis of tourist safety models. The principle global recommendations for tourist safety and the current situation in Bulgaria regarding this issue are described. Tourist safety in our country is also reviewed in terms of possible managerial decisions in the tourist sector, legislative regulations and insurance market. The paper also reviews the social aspects of subject as well as human resource competence as a key factor of the trade policy of tourist enterprises.
