Summary/Abstract: Flashback is a term used in the cinema that means a narrative with detours back in time. Or in other words with a flashback one can observe actions that took place in the past, episodes or an episode that provide information about the present state of the protagonist or a situation through reminiscences. Reminiscences could be separated or an integral principle of the narrative. The text examines two flashback strategies that were characteristic from the beginning of the 19th century: a dramaturgic concept or grading of the hero’s motivation. The conclusion is that the exposed by the intellectual cinema with its universal aesthetics the flashback that breaks the screen’s time=space homogeneity could also be perceived as a ‘peacemaker’ between mainstream and art house cinema.
