Silence leads to secrets of the heart

Summary/Abstract: The author chose to speak about the phenomenon of silence and its Gnostic meaning because silence is an important part of the spiritual path, for at least two reasons: first, silence is the precondition for any form of spiritual examination, and second, silence is the necessary accompanying element for any level of man's self-completion. This paper treats silence in its general meaning, halvet, as a method of spiritual exercise that teaches a person to enjoy silence and its spiritual fruit: patience, ma'rifet, hikmet, which allows the one who experiences their true meaning to return to the Secret of one's own being as the gift endowed by God for keeping and care.
