Summary/Abstract: The poverty is a global phenomena that is considered as one of the largest and most serious problems of humanity. Its consequences are affecting enormous part of the world’s population. In order to determine the main causes and to create the most appropriate policies and strategies for its reduction, the poverty is studied on different levels (global, regional, national etc.) and from different perspectives. This paper is analyzing the globalization’s influence on the poverty and it’s reduction or growth. There are opposing views about this issue, but the authors’ opinion is that the globalization’s influence changes in different environments and it’s determined by many factors, such as: economical, political, geographical, social, demographical, historical etc. The poverty on global level, observed in the last two centuries, has a tendency of permanent growth (using the number of people that live below the poverty line as an indicator). In 2005 around 1,4 billion of people lived with less then 1,25 USD/day, and almost half of the world’s population (3,14 billions) lived with less then 2,5 USD/day. Poverty rates measured on regional level are very different. The most significant poverty reduction is evident in the regions of East Asia and Pacific, as a result of the great economic success of China. The most concerning situation is evident in the region of Sub-Saharan Africa where the poverty rate is over 50% and the number of poor people is almost doubled in the period of 1981 to 2005.
