Summary/Abstract: The aim of this paper is to focus on theoretical and methodological aspects of teaching pragmatics in a second language. Starting from a theoretical and practical standpoint we will insist on the way in which pragmatic awareness can be analysed and applied in an EFL context using instructional methods meant to develop students’ pragmatic competence when interacting orally. Furthermore, based on my teaching experience, I will provide some strategies that can be used to raise the pragmatic awareness of English language learners. My main goal in this paper is to bring relevant arguments for teaching pragmatics to EFL students by specifically focusing on its advantages in the CAE (Certificate in Advanced English) training module for Paper 5(Speaking Test).
