Summary/Abstract: Three dimensions of human nature, rational, emotional and biological, have to be considered when studying foreign policy decision making. Yet, the biological dimension tends to be ignored. Two cases of famous American presidents—Woodrow Wilson at the 1919 Paris Peace Conference, and Franklin Delano Roosevelt at the 1945 Yalta Conference, are analyzed to show how poor health impaired their performance during those critical negotiations. Had the two leaders been physically fi t when the occasion demanded, results better serving American national interest and values could have been achieved.
