Summary/Abstract: The article presents the conceptual treatments of mediation in tourism, the contemporary aspects of links in the tourist distribution system and generally said the current trends gaining ground in this economic activity. There is an emphasis on the state and the characteristics of tourist mediation in Bulgaria. Generalized conclusions had been made on the grounds of a realized analysis and several problems had been sharply outlined in the light of the contribution of these economic subjects in order to develop the destination. The article is part of a Research Project entitled ‘Evaluation of the Opportunities of Intermediary Enterprises for the Development of Tourism in Bulgaria’, which is financed by the ‘Institute of Scientific Researches’ considered as part of the Academy of Economy ‘D. A. Тsenov’, Svishtov. A basic purpose of the whole study is the evaluation of the potential of the intermediary activity in tourism and the selection of possible solutions toward a refinement of their activity for more fulfilled contribution for the development of the destination.
