Summary/Abstract: Josef Topol and František Hrubín chose for their dramatic works matter from mythical antiquity of the Czech history. Topol’s dramatic coming-out Půlnoční vítr had its opening in the March of 1955 in the Army Theatre of Art, Hrubín’s Oldřich a Božena in the September of 1968 in the Vinohrady’s Theatre. After the fi rst introducing both the dramas were read like respons to present times. The historical theme is updated and substitutes the contemporary drama. Further life of these dramatic pieces is also conditioned by relation to contemporary acceptance. The theme of national identity is hidden under the love, heroic or power theme here. Both the authors are poets too, so their dramas present some characteristic features: untypical dramatic shape, free dealing with plot or metaphoric express way.
