The Feminist Perspective in Holocaust Literature Studies

Summary/Abstract: This discussion on books and articles dealing with the issue of female experience in the Holocaust literature characterises the major controversies having emerged around the project of feminist studies in the Holocaust literature, along with new research perspectives inspired by the feminist theory. They reveal the conventionality of a wartime literature canon, its being organised around what is referred to as a ‘normative Holocaust narrative’. The last subchapter deals with specifically female forms of wartime narrative (‘cooking memoirs’, metaphors rendering the former-camp-inmate trauma syndrome, the role of autobiographical writings in articulation of female identity).
