Summary/Abstract: The Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban, with a courage and dynamism rare in today’s Europe, is proceeding with the implementation of an all encompassing state reform. This reform, as ‘the Rebirth of Hungary’ , embraces a new regime within the existing republic framework who’s ambition is the reconstruction of nearly all public institutions, the restoration of national autonomy, the rehabilitation of political integrity, the fixing of public finances and the strengthening of national identity. The premise of this reform is one of conservatism, driving it into conflict with certain modern-day worldviews, and the price of this reform comes high, with fierce internal conflict and tremendous international criticism. The immediate threat for this ambitious plan is a European fiscal crisis, whereas the long-term threat would be that of a constitutional coup after Orban loses power, a coup which is already being ideologically implemented by the liberal-left.
