Summary/Abstract: The degree of spreading of violence, of the feeling of threat in the school environment and the high level of the expectations of sanctions among pupils and teachers established on the basis of data from a sociological survey ,,The Minors and Deviant Behaviour" back with arguments the choice of violence as an object of analysis in the article. The reasons for violence in the school environment have been searched for at three interrelated levels — macrosocial, institutional, individual. The preponderence of destruction over the innovation in the course of the social transformation both in society and the school institution is the structural reason for violence have been embedded in the lack of value consensus in the course of the social change in the individual inertness and in the absence of positive legal models of a prosperous individual behaviour. The situational factors of violence embedded in the relation between a pupil and a teacher have been considered at an institutional level. Among the individual factors the differences in gander have been interpreted with a view to the functioning of violence as an element of the socially approved model of the male role.
