Summary/Abstract: Since the „Age of Enlightenment”, when the Eastern parts of Europe gradually became better known to the Western public opinion, especially through constant journeys within these territories, the way to define or name cultures or civilizations very different from the Western world proved to be reluctant, due to the difficulties raised by such an endeavour. The geopolitical and geocultural interests that animated the parts involved in this enterprise made the attempt get even more complicated as time was passing, particularly after the Second World War. This article focuses on presenting and analysing several opinions concerning one of the designations applied to this territory, namely the “South-Eastern Europe”, without loosing sight of the other definitions or terms used by many other researchers in their studies on this topic.
