„Classmates” in Klimontów

Summary/Abstract: The title and content of this article are based on a figure of speech used by Tadeusz Słobodzianek, a Polish playwright, who set his drama about Jedwabne in a classroom (Nasza klasa, 2009). Researching pre-war school records stored in the school archive in Klimontów allowed the author of this article to re-discover those Jews and Poles whose war-time experiences she had encountered during research into the unfolding of the Shoah in the Sandomierz region. Indeed, an analysis of the records shows that in some instances the victims and the perpetrators were in the same class before the war.
