The Flying and the Leap into the abyss

Summary/Abstract: The article analyses one aspect of the Castaneda's mistical system which seems to be consistent with postmodern shamanism: the Flying and the Leap into the abyss. The roots of such a concept are to be found in the traditional shamanism as well as in the Oriental legends and religions. The Flying seems to have always been an atribute of gods, of powerful sorcerers or men in contact with the divine. Flying is the capacity to abbandon the material body and to travel into the spirits' world, in order to obtain freedom and knowledge.
