Summary/Abstract: The article analyses two main concepts of Castaneda's new vision of the world. Within the Tonal the world is organized as a list of objects, attempting to eliminate the chaos. On the other hand, the Nagual is that part of the inner and external world that cannot be submitted to rules, which cannot be explained, named or touched. In ordinary man, the Tonal invades the Nagual and tries to suppress it. In order to tackle with the Nagual, Carlos has to learn how to suppress the analogies, the differences, the comparisons specific to the Tonal. Thus he becomes able to see "the lines of the world", the flowing energy that constitutes the shamanic universe.
