Summary/Abstract: Family policy is a part of the social population policy and is subject to discussions with the participation of scientists and politicians. The different approaches to its formulations, the definition of its perimeter and priorities, have their economic, sociological, demographic, as well as political foundations that are often the basis of speculations and populism. The domain of the discussions is large — from its right to exist as a specified part of the social or population policy, to the definition of its purposes, essence, definition of object and institutionalisation. The result of such discussions is an implicit or explicit family policy designed in most of the European countries, all member-states of the European Economic Community, USA, Canada, Israel, etc. This article discusses the essence, the form of its execution, the object, and priorities of a family policy in different countries and the possibilities for its application in Bulgaria. Important considerations refer to specific changes in the Bulgar-ian family as well as the social and economic conditions of living in our country.
