Summary/Abstract: The paper focuses on the question why there are only a few narratives about the life of Adam and Hawwa after they have been expelled from the Garden, while most of specifically “Islamic” accents in the story of the Creation are concentrated in the Earthly period of their lives. The reason for this “deficiency” is the nature of literary sources, on which the oral tradition is based – most of the information comes from “non-narrative” texts of the Quran, Muhammad’s traditions and exegetical literature. The key-term for the understanding of the Islamic version of Man’s (humanity’s) preordainment khalifa (God’s vicegerent on the Earth) is not discussed among common believers, as the predominant theme in all oral stories of the Creation is the fulfillment of God’s plan to settle human beings on the Earth. Nevertheless, popular Islamic tradition is well-informed about all specifically “Islamic” accents of the Earthly life of Adam and Hawwa (the connection of the story of the Creation with the sacred locuses of Islam, the prophetic mission of Adam, etc.). They are not “supported” by corresponding texts but are rather a part of the religious knowledge of common believers.
