Summary/Abstract: The paper presents a specific part of post-Byzantine period in the Balkan area. The primary sources are letters of the French ambassadors in Constantinople (1668-1708) which consider the poorly known or unknown aspects of the communication between the French representatives in the Sultan’s metropolis and the Greeks. Western European Catholic activities benefit from the Orthodox literature and the Byzantine history and culture, thus the spiritual union between Rome and Constantinople is a leading issue of the French absolute monarchy interests.
